Question about an Elk

The M1 Gold does not truly support the Caddx NX408E, even though the manual indicates that it does.

Peter, not true. I have one running just fine here in my office with zero issues.

Hi Martin,

I agree that Your experiences might be different, but we don't have enough confidence in the NX408E to recommend it, or sell it.

We experienced 100% failure rate.

2% would have been too much for us.

Elk feels that the NX416E is a better economic choice; so much so that they published said details in their manual.

I agree with their position too. It's not a good value.

Peter

The only way that I see economy entering into the discussion is if you are using, or planning on using, close to all 208 zones. If an installation in only using 100 zones (or less) why would anybody care about 8 zones "wasted" somewhere by only using 8 zones of a 16 zone bank?

I think it should be left to the customer what the best economic choice is for them. Although the 16 port card isn't much more money than the 8 port card, if the customer doesn't need it, why pay for the extra capacity.

We have sold a lot of the 8 port cards and haven't seen any issues other than what jskibo has reported. I suspect he just got a bad card. I have two of them installed myself as well - one in my office building and one in my house.
