Rack Mount Power

I'm looking for a rack mount power and ran across these. Would some of these features be a plus with HA?

If you had things in or close to your rack that you wanted to power on and of wuth your HA system, this could be interesting. Two things that would steer me away from them however.

1) They are 30A units, so you will need a 30A feed to power them (you could just wire up a 30A plug, but that would be against NEC, and I would not recommend it).

2) These look very old. If you are planning on powering computers and other electonic equipment, I would not use them IMO.

APC makes very good modern units that can be rack mounted or a long strip that can be mounted in the back of the switch. We use them in racks of computers on a regular basis. They will measure amp draw and there are units which you can control power on each port. They are accessible via the network so writing a little script couldn't be beyond you to automate anything.

Good luck!

I actually had one of those, from a PDP-11 I gutted for the rack. Damn thing hummed something awful, nasty 60 cycle buzz. Given the racket a PDP made it wasn't like this thing's noise was a big deal. But it was way too annoying for use in a residence. Actually one of the few pieces of gear I just threw out, rather that foist it on some poor soul off fleabay.

So, no, I'd avoid it.
