RC-2000 Configuration question

I recently needed to swap out my RC-2000 thermostat due to some problems with the display.  Before the swap, old RC-2000 thermostat was functioning well with routine cooling and heating functions.  However, after replacing the old thermostat with the new, the HVAC unit now generates heat when in the cooling mode.  I have gone through and made sure all my heat pump settings (1 stage cool, 2 stage) are configured.    Any ideas on what setting is reversed or not configured correctly for the cooling?  Do I need to reset to factory default and reset the thermostat?  I appreciate your help.

Did you remove the base plate and reinstall? 
Or just swap control heads?
 
If you removed the baseplate, it sounds like you swapped the heat and cool wires to the relays.

Good idea.  But I kept the baseplate that was originally installed.  Still, it is possible the wiring was disturbed.  So for that issue, I checked the wiring on a 2nd thermostat for an upstairs HVAC unit and the wiring looks fine. 
 
One thing I did do wrong was installing the new control head upside down initially and then I had no power to the control head.  It blew a fuse that my HVAC contractor had to replace.   With the new fuse, the control head powered up, I configured the stages, and then started having the heat on cool setting issue.

If the wires aren't crossed and it's programmed correctly, you're probably going to have to call an HVAC company.
There may have been other damage with the blown fuse.
 
A heat pump not cooling sounds like the reversing valve is stuck.

Yesterday I had my HVAC contractor make a visit.  He checked the wiring and the main unit in the attic.  He wanted to make sure the O and B wiring was correct.  It was wired correctly.  So after installing/removing the head device a couple times, the heat pump finally kicked in and started cooling.  
 
Desert_AIP, I think you were right that the reversing valve was stuck and we were finally able to get it working right.  Thanks!
