RC2000 -- Outside Temperature

Where does the RC2000 get outside temperature information from?

I have two RC2000 units, one is hooked up to a duel fuel system and the other is hooked up to a heat pump with aux electric. The duel fuel unit is wired to an outdoor temp sensor the second unit is not wired to a temperature sensor - but still displays an outdoor temperature. However, it doesn't seem to display the same temperature as the first unit - instead it seems to pick one of my other temperature sensors hooked up to my HAI to use? Is that accurate?

On a side note - I simply hooked up the RC2000 to the temp sensor that was connected to my old Honeywell thermostat - is that supported or do I need to replace that temp sensor with HAI sensor? The temperature seems to be accurate -- however, I have noticed that when it displays the outdoor temp on the thermostat it is constantly changing between two values while it is being displayed.

Do you have your thermostats tied to an Omni controller? Because if you do, and the Omni has a temperature sensor connected to it, the thermostats will get the outdoor temperature from the Omni via the thermostat comm bus. In this case you don't need a separate outdoor sensor connected directly to the thermostat.

If you have a 31A00-7 or 31A00-8 installed and set to "Outdoor Temperature" it gets it from there.
You can only have one temperature sensor set to Outdoor Temperature, all the others need to be ER Temperature.

What type of sensor do you have hooked to the thermostat?
Usually that input replaces the onboard (indoor) temperature sensor of the thermostat.

I actually don't know what type it is.. It is the sensor that came with my HVAC system. The old thermostat (and new RC2000 should) used that to determine when to run the heat pump and when to run the gas furnace based on outdoor temperature. So the type is either honeywell or carrier.. I actually am not even sure where it is.. I guess I need to track that down..

HAI's thermostats will only get the outdoor temperature from either a 31A00-7 (-1) or 31A00-8 (-2) connected to a zone on the pane with the Zone Type set to ER Outdoor Temp for -7/-8 or Outdoor Temp for -1/-2.
