Recent Topic in SmartHome forum - Reply

Hi all,

There is a recent (10/01/13) topic in the Smarthome Instenon forums titled 'Insteon vs. Z Wave'. I attempted to post a reply. It has been so many years since I posted there, I forgot and, for some reason, was unable reset my password.

Here is the text:

Hi

I have been using some of the early Z-Wave modules for more than five years now. No failures. The Z-Wave software I use is HomeSeer, expensive.

The original Insteon hardware / software / firmware / reliability, was not the best. I am guessing they have gotten that fixed by now.

First; Do not depend on any of this technology as being 100%. It works as an aid. For people who might need immediate life assistance, stick with the certified products.

For a simple remote control system, get some Z-Wave modules with a remote control. No computer needed. The setup is hard, you need to be able to read and follow written instructions.

Once set up, they just work. I have three Z-Wave remotes, in my house, that I last set up three years ago. They control many of my Z-Wave devices.

As a stand alone remote system, Z-Wave has been proven.

Enjoy

Hi Ken;
Been awhile for both of us.
I still occasionally see questions on InHomeFre.
Thanks for your information  on Insteon vs X Wave.

I will just let this thread die. My only thought was to reply to a newby on the 'xx vs/vs xx' in the SmartHome forum, that topic has pretty much been beaten to death.

Good hear your comments again BLH.

My family and friends often comment about the 'automatic' lights on/off. It is cool that I can dial in my own variables to make the majic happen.

Some of the cooler things are to just have the (in my case, Z-Wave) 'motion detection modules' programmed to work the auto switch functions on their own, no computer needed.

To all, enjoy this stuff.
