I want to put a camera at the front door and then when someone presses the doorbell the camera captures the current image and then sends it to my mobile. Is there anyway that this can be achieved.

Thanks

Mick

Any DVR with IO controls will be able to do this using FTP, if you want it as an actual SMS messagge you will need a GSM modem and provide it service.

do a search for URLBMP. It's a program that you can script through command line. I use it to capture 10 images upon motion, from a port that my camera streams to, zip 'em and email them to me.

my mistake, Collin is right - it's URL2BMP.

I run a script that invokes this program thru a command line. If you want the structure of it, I'll dig it out for you.

If you can get the doorbell alarm into HS then you can trigger an event.

Very easy to do. Right now i am using a Vivotek 6111 IP camera and my Blackberry every time some presses the doorbell I get 6 images on my phone. I setup a gmail account for the camera and I only used it for the camera makes it a lot easier to manage the images . Only thing about the Vivotek is it requires a voltage trigger instead of a contact trigger.

I have my doorbell hooked up to my M1 panel so I just used one of the voltage triggers but u can do it without the M1.

URL2BMP was new to me, so I d/l'ed it. AVG thinks it's a trojan horse. Anyone else seeing this?

this functionality is something i am looking to do also. responses have been great so far. a couple of additional questions:

1. is there a good solution for making this motion sensitive so it snaps a picture in the event the doorbell is not rung? my sense is that a lot of pictures of "birds" might be sent to my mobile.

2. how important is location? up high seems more tamperproof, but i want to see a person's face...not their bald spot. camera, intercom, doorbell combo mounted at doorbell height? this might conflict with 1. above.

3. standalone camera is one thing, but is one system better than another if i install multiple cameras to cover each entry point?

TonyNo - i am getting the same problem with AVG. I have completely disabled AVG and URL2BMP is now working again. This seems to have appeared with the most recent May 16/2008 dat update. if i could roll back to earlier, i would. I wonder if AVG has a solution?
