SH Forum Moderator false allegations

The guy over there accused me of false posting? Give me a break. I just wanted an exchange. Unreal.

I give up. SH can keep their switches and my money.

Never again will I buy anything there.

I don't think he ment you, I think he was just stating that he could see ip addresses. But I have been known to be wrong :)

Well SH just panicked since the moderator over there falsly accused me of something. They caved. I will now get my swap.

Dave:

1. Tom Fitzpatrick does not work for SH. He is a volunteer forum moderator to help remove spam postings. He is independent of SH and does not represent SH.

2. We will do whatever you want. Ryan actually called me today, I'm in Wisconsin this weekend, to make sure he was giving you what you wanted. We were both confused because you had sent quite a few emails with multiple proposals about how to handle this. I told him I thought you wanted a refund so that is what he offered you.

3. I'm sure we can swap them. But you will still need to send them back. Tell us how many relays you want, what color and we will trust that you will send your bad switches in and we will ship out your new relays.

OK?

Email us back to tell us how many relay switches you want (and what color) and we will ship them out ground shipping to you on Monday. Then ship us back your switches.

Thanks,

Laurie

Actually the guy may not have screwed up. I may have been spoofed according to Paypal. Someone on SH Forum may have gotten access to my computer or something. Not sure how you do that but apparently its fairly easy. I need to change all of my passwords etc.

digger,

No allegations were made, false or otherwise. A new user to the forums was picking on you in particular in multiple message threads, and I put out word to *everyone* that I could see the IP address of the person doing the name calling. I could also see that that same person was posting under a *different* alias.

People get the wrong idea sometimes, that just because they are on the other end of a high speed data connection that no one can trace activity back to them. The nice thing about the computer age is, everything leaves a trail. Anyone who posts, edits or deletes a message leaves a trail. Back when I ran my own message board, I *required* that everyone use their real names to stop someone, like your attacker, from being an anonymous coward.

I had hoped that, by warning the person posting messages attacking you that he had been identified, we could put a stop to those inflammatory personal attacks and get back to the real discussions. Since the person attacking you was doing so from the eastern US, as identified by IP address, I really thought that would allay your fears that someone at SH was trying to tarnish your name. I wanted to be sure you saw my note so that you would be aware that progress was being made. I'm a big believer in karma, so even if SH doesn't pursue him using the logs which are available, I'm sure that anonymous coward will get all the punishment he deserves soon enough.

I apologize for any misunderstandings. If I get 'fired' as volunteer moderator, so be it. Better to go down doing the right thing than have to live with myself while standing idly by.

Tom

No one is looking to get you fired Tom. But you made people think it was me by using my name. I have friends on that forum and here from work and outside of work also

You need to be careful when you make comments like you did

In the end it pushed SH over the edge and they finally agreed to a swap in writing. I dont know what is going to actually transpire though.

Why someone would pick on me for trying to get a exchange under warranty is as crazy as SH refusing (in writiing no matter) to give it to me.

P.S. I changed my password over there since you thnk someone is posting under my name. I did have someone try and use my paypal today to order porn. Trouble was he didnt tell them to ship it to me :) Just kidding. My wife would kill me. Paypal caought on to it somehow. Dont know how.

P.S. S. If they fire you let me know and I will hire you for the same pay. Seriously if they start to hassle you have them email me and I will tell them that mistakes happen and you didnt mean to imply me.

Digger, I started the thread on techmall under which all this occurred. I've read through the posts so I understand that you thought Tom meant you. He doesn't say that and I didn't take his posts to imply that it was you although I began to be suspicious after you replied so vehemently to non-existent accusations. "Methinks he doth protest too much..." In any case, congratulations on SH doing the right thing and let me join others in saying lets get back to business.

God, I thought this whole deal was over the top Saturday night.... thank god I wasn't around most of Sunday to get tangled up in this... :)

Here here! I am begininng to think we should change the name of the forum to "The Smarthome Bashing Forum". Stating the problems once, twice, thrice and then again in response to relevant posts is OK. But this has been excessive.

However, thanks to posts like these (and my constanly reverting to A1 X10 appliancelincs), I have avoided insteon so far, but enough is enough.

SH, I love the catalogs - bring back the X10 stuff (Keypadlincs, non-neutral switches in WHITE).

Thanks,

GLT

Perhaps, but I think that if SH is providing RMA's for similar issues(which I know for a fact that they have), then why should he be treated any differently? And if it takes shouting from the top of the mountain repeatedly to get resolution, then so be it. SH has been in the wrong here.

I don't understand it, I've had no issues.

I'd love to hear SmartHome's side of things.
