What is the best solution to show laptop on TV screen? I know Intel vidi is a good solution but you need vidi compatible wifi driver which I don't have.

I use a 42" Sony LCD TV as the monitor for my Macbook at my office desk, via an HDMI cable connected through a generic / aftermarket converter to the Macbook Mini Display Port. Works perfectly, with no lag time that I can notice, even when using the mouse quickly. Only problem is when booting up computer you need to mirror the displays, starting with the Macbook screen. That computer stays on 24/7, though, so not a problem very often for me.

I tried using the same TV, which is also connected to an AppleTV, over Airplay (wifi). While this works perfectly for watching movies, videos, etc., that are on the Mac (or also any iOS device), the lag time for typical computer work involving mouse and keyboard was just annoying, so I switched to the system above.

I am considering installation of a Windows-based Home Theatre PC that would connect to this same TV (because I can't find a way to use a cablecard tuner with a Mac solution that lets me connect to other TVs via IP, unfortunately) and will also use a straight HDMI connector for that.

How long is a piece of string?

What kind of laptop do you have? Are there any ports on it that may be useful or are you solely trying to display video without connecting any dongles or cables?

Do you mean Widi? There are numerous options of for that technology and if your laptop comes equipped with Widi then I would start there...

Android TV stick. You can use apps to stream videos directly and avoid using the computer at all. If you get a stick that supports miracast you will be able to use windows 8.1 to mirror your laptop to the tv (w/ reasonably recent hardware). Apps that support AirPlay are also available.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running windows 7 home edition Intel core Duo t6600. I run Geovision security software which I would like to watch on the TV. The laptop is 15 feet from the TV and I don't want to run HDMI cable across the room.
Widi is Intel solution to show laptop on TV but you need a Widi compatible laptop and mine is not.

I had 2 Cat 5E cable running from my in wall rack to my wall mount plasma about 45 feet. I was going to do HDMI over Cat5E but found a great deal on VGA over Cat5E ($8.00 for the kit) works perfect and since all my audio is in the rack I didn't have to worry about running audio to the TV.
