I already have an extensive home network built to include two IP cameras that I can view remotely. All I really want to do is have my two sets of flood lights on two single pole switches, a garage single pole switch controlling two-two tube fixtures and four CFL's in my shop controlled via two three way switches. I also have ordered a Harmony One remote and was hoping to use this--as I have read somewhere that this was possible, and saw a add for a Harmony 890 + one free z-wave lamp module. At this point I'm leaning towards z-wave but this seems to be a debate on the same grounds as religion and politics. I just not wanting to as little tuition as possible. What are your feelings about the Vera Z-Wave and the like of...Is this advantage or am I good to go since I'm able to hit a server and two IP cams within my home from anywhre I have internet access. I realize this probably a tired subject, but I welcome any input and direction.

Thanks in Advance

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I don't car anything about dimming these lights. I just want to be able for my wife to turn lights on from the car, and light the areas where the cameras are located.

I am a little surprised that there is no response to this one from the Z-wave folks. I am, unfortunately, not one of them. Still....

I would think that the biggest factor would be the likelyhood that you will (or won't) continue to add to your automation scheme. Even then, the answer may be the same. Given that you have a remote already that works with Z-wave, and given that you want to be able to control your lights from your car, this points to an RF solution. While others can do this, Z-wave is based on RF signals so it sounds like a natural fit.

If, however, you think you might continue to add devices and controllers to your system and automate more and more of your house, and integrate this with security systems, then other systems may work better for you. If all you want to do is as you say, keep it simple and keep it Z-wave.
