Last night April 12, 2004 at 8 pm and 11 pm on the Discovery channel, The show Monster House converted one homeowners house into a "Viking House" from the mid evil times.

One of the installs done during the show was a Doorbell from SmartHome. The doorbell was programmable and the show programmed it to sound like thunder when it was pressed. It is also connected to their phone so that it rings the phone when the doorbell button is pressed.

Watch it again on April 18, 2004 at 3:00 PM Eastern Time

See pictures from the show here(no pics of the doorbel)

I have e-mail SmartHome to try and figure out what all was used in the setup. I will reply with detail is someone else doesn't beat me to it.

There are numerous ways to get a doorbell press into HomeSeer [1]. Once you get it there, you could do anything you wanted. The clap of thunder could be played over whole-house audio, not just from the doorbell device. Video cameras can be triggered (as was mentioned in a recent thread).

Relay across doorbell wires into Ocelot, game port, parallel port, etc.
Powerflash X10 module.
Doorbell switch replacing current switch and doorbell and wired directly to Ocelot, game port, parallel port, etc.
Wireless doorbell hack (one of my current projects).
etc.
