Software used to support the forum?

Gents,

I'm a long-time member (madcodger) who really likes the forum and discussion threads. My wife and I own a franchised business and are thinking of creating an owner's site to improve communications, trade ideas, etc. among franchisees (our franchisor's system isn't meeting our needs, and we want an "owner's only" site). Based on my experience with Cocoontech, I'm impressed by the software / interface that enables the forum threads here. Can you tell me what you use to support this? Can we buy it "off the shelf" and support it with largely non-techies?

Sorry to ask here, but I can't get the "Contact Us" page to work...

Thanks,

Joe

What 'Contact Us' link are you using (and what browser/error)?

As for the software, it's IP.Board, probably one of the better packages out there. vBulletin is another popular choice (both are commercial grade, used by many big companies).

There are a few free good ones out there, but usually don't offer the same set of features:
  • XenForo: New kid on the block, doesn't look like the typical forum, but it's getting a lot of attention.
  • phpBB: Been around for a long time, but has experienced many security issues.
  • SMF: Seems to be pretty popular, haven't heard many things about it.

I would also check out TheAdminZone.com, which discusses forum software/management, and ForumMatrix.org to see what else is out there. but don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions.

Well I know what the link is supposed to be ;) Just checking if he found another link, since the one you mentioned does work (and gets used all the time).
