staircase sensor

This tub is only used for showers, so I can't answer that question. I had one extra, that's the only reason I tried it ;)

I think I may incorporate one of these under the tub before I put drywall up. Awesome idea! I could have all TTS announcements switch to the bathroom while I'm showering. Turn the fan on, trigger music to play, etc..... Love your idea, thanks!

If I get one of these (http://www.automatedoutlet.com/product.php?productid=483&cat=123&page=1) can I hook it up directly to an ELK or do I need the processor as well?

Thanks

The processor unit is normally required for this, however, maybe you can get this to work as an analog input on the Elk M1? The problem with the M1 is that you have to poll the value of this sensor (since analog value changes can not trigger rules), so I am not sure if this would work. If I have some time this weekend, I'll give this a try, but if you can afford the processor, I would definitely go that route.

So if you get the one zone processor and hook four sensors up to it the elk won't know which one is which correct? They need a processor that is multi zone but one sensor is one zone.

Correct. In most situations, you will need multiple sensors per zone. They do have a multizone unit, and you don't HAVE to hook up 4 sensors per zone (you would use the supplied resistors to balance the sensors).

You will have a difficult time hooking these up to an ELK without building a front-end circuit. This is because their resistance drifts over time based on the temp. We'll maybe you could but it would take some pretty involved program logic. You are looking for a fast change in resistance, not an absolute resistance, because this changes with the temp.
