One of my favourite blogs is Jeff Atwood's CodingHorror. Today's topic is about the battle of wits between Craigslist and spammers. It made me appreciate the top-notch job Dan and BSR are doing in keeping Cocoontech neat and clean.

Many thanks for your hard work!

It's incredible how much time and resources spam is wasting nowadays. The reason we don't see much spam here is because of the 'bot-proof' question you get when signing up. In the past, we used to rely on some complex scripting to analyze posts, but the error rate was too high. The new question method seems to be pretty efficient for a site like this, but I can imagine that the spammers will have enough incentive to work around this should Craigslist decide to do something similar.

Craigslist is a joke. We have this bozo in the Compter forum of the Las Vegas Craigslist who posts spam ads at least 400 times a day for Adobe products (using the spamming methods mentioned above I imagine). A complete waste of time trying to weed though all that spam. Then there are another hundred or so posts who complain about the 400 spam posts...

Man, what a few people can do to destroy something is amazing. :(
