*** Thinner Magnet for Double Hung window

Are there any thinner window magnets? Less than 1/4" thick.
I just received the Honeywell 5811 and the supplied magnets are a bit thicker than it needs to be. I am looking to mount the wireless on top of the lower window and the magnet on the bottom part of the upper window. This way either goes up/down it activates the alarm.
Similar to pic attached.

Try removing the magnet from the housing?

You're not going to find many encased magnets less than 1/4"
DEL.
I did try that last night. That will work if I don't find an encased magnet.

I usually mount to the side of the window casing instead:

Side mounting, would also allow me to install a secondary magnet if I wanted to leave windows cracked a few inches. Although, I've never actually done it.

That is true, however part of the appeal of a 5811 is using it to protect both sashes with a single device and be "trim" while doing such.

I think the only guys that make stuff that small would either be USP or Tane...but the next issue is going to end up being the gap.

Ah, I suppose if I were doing a retrofit with wireless sensors, it would make sense to use the 5811's for double hung windows then.

Fortunately, mine are all wired and cost a fraction of the price ;) I also don't have any double-hung windows in my house either.

Placing the reed switch and  magnet on the window rails (the top horizontal bar between the sash) also puts it in plain sight from the outside of the structure.  A reed switch can easily be defeated by placing a large magnet next to it before opening the window.  If the sensor is in plain sight, it makes it very easy to defeat the reed switch.

Of course it isn't rocket science to defeat reed switches that are not in plain sight, but I'd still suggest not placing them on the window rail.

HMMM. Good point. I just bought 24 of these 5811.
How do you monitor the top and bottom sash with one sensor? Also how do the pros wire double hung windows to monitor both sash?

The 5811 is a Honeywell contact, so you would need the M1XRF2H to use it with the ELK.

But there are other similarly sized wireless contacts that are compatible with the M1XRFEG.  I think the GE TX-1010-01-1 is one that will work.
