Tools for wire retrofit...

I had started a thread here concerning the planning of my panel and wiring. Following up on that, as I'll be starting the actual work shortly (early June probably), I had some questions about tools / accessories for helping this go easier...

The first one revolves around what are sometimes called fish-sticks. Essentially, 5' - 6' sections of fiberglass rod that screw together to help push/pull wire throgh an existing wall / insulation / etc.

When i first started looking, i discovered they were quite expensive, but then I found this eBay item that gave me much less heart burn in terms of price.

That being said, they are only 3/16" thick, and other I have seen were twice as thick. Should I be concerned about using them this thin?

I priced Fish Stix last week, locally, ~$45, electric supply store, probably about 15 feet total.

Why would you want to get this off eBay, when you can get it locally for about the same price?

You'll probably never need 33'.

I've seen 2 thicknesses of 'Fish Stix' - thick and thin. I think the thin work better. I'm guessing the thin ones I've used are ~3/16" dia.

When I replace my crappy thick set (1 of 3 sections trashed now), I'll get the thinner ones.

well, I don't have a basement, so all of my runs are coming from the attic,, so I may need more than 15 feet. Plus, this "supplier" is actually local to me, so I get them quick.

I check other local suppliers and noone could come close to 33' for 40 bucks. Maybe they'll be junk and I'll regret it, but I thought it was worth a try.

Good to know you think the thin is better.
