As shown from the announcement Total Control Remote Edition Announcement we have released our Iphone - Itouch Universal IR remote application. In this case it is based on the Bitwise Controls BC4/BCX-1 unit & module. The application is fully integrated for the IR functions of the unit so there is no pc or server required. Once you setup the BC4/BCX-1 you can talk directly to it via the iphone/itouch. We utilize the built-in IR library dbase so there are thousands of IR codes already available in the app. just select device type: tv, c d /dvd player, a/v receiver, etc., - manufacturer: samsung, russound, lutron, tivo, etc., and choose from codesets. hit the power button to test each codeset. when the power switches on/off for the device then just click save and all the buttons are mapped out for you. very simple to setup and use. have a button that isn't controlled properly via the built-in dbase? just override that button and learn it in from a remote. again just between the application and the bitwise appliance. no pc needed. have a device not in the dbase? no problem, go ahead and learn a whole remote into the application.
This is a great all in one solution for IR universal remote control without the need of a pc. As an appliance the hardware just 'works'. We have been testing for 1 year and have not had any issues. The application supports one or more bitwise units as well as one or more profiles and even more than one iphone/itouch can control a bitwise unit at almost simultaneous times. you cannot have 2 iphone/itouch controlling at the exact same time but they can send commands less than 1 second apart. We have tested with iphones & itouches at the same time and for the most part it is seemless. once in awhile you make have to click a button twice because the box received 2 commands at the exact same time but other than that we use multiple devices to control the unit with no problem.
This is all over wifi so there are no line of sight requirements. you can have all your hardware within a rack in a closet with no problem. control multiple bitwise units. you tell the application which device is using which bitwise unit on which port and that's it. the app will handle the rest.
Security functions: lock down tabs and sections of the application as well as password protect profiles. the app allows for
1. multiple profiles for custom setups for each user. you may have an itouch with 4 family members. setup the app with 4 profiles with the preferences each user prefers and then password protect it so others can't accidentally use each others' setup.
2.lock down tabs and sections for public/commercial use. want to use the app in a board/meeting room to control projectors, projection screens, window shades, lighting, etc.? but you don't want any regular user to get into the setup and change items. setup a public profile and then lock down sections/tabs of the applications so that the public user can only access the actual devices to be controlled.
