UPB switches not responding to manual operation

I'm just getting all my wire ran for security etc. and after the kids go to bed I have been installing some switches. They have not been programmed yet, just getting them swapped as the kids are not around to get zapped.

Now some once in a while are not responding to up or down presses. Sometimes lights stay on. And I have to pull air switch to cycle power a few times to get them to smarten up. OPII isn't tied in yet, so should be no upb traffic.

Any idea why they won't respond sometimes?

HAI switches, 600W CFL dimmers, and non dimmers. Some are incandescent bulbs though. Though spec sheet says its fine, from what I gather.

Try doing a factory reset on them just to clear any programming that might be jumbled:

Tap the top 5 times.  If you are successful the controlled lamp should flash once and the LED in the switch will start blinking blue.
Then tap the top 10 times quickly.  If it's done right the controlled lamp will flash again and the LED will switch to red.
If that worked, tap the switch just once to leave setup mode.

Then see what happens.

Just to confirm, these switches are hopefully set to control the local load?  I'm not as familiar with the HAI models, but I know some switches communicate by sending and receiving links (have to send the link and receive it at the same time) whereas others have direct control but send their status updates over UPB.  The SA 1140 that I use a lot can be configured either way.  I would make sure that you're set up for local load control at the very least.

They work locally. And two switches stopped working all of a sudden . Some power cycles corrected them. They are local load switches, and not aux switches.

It's difficult to know for certain how they are programmed without UPStart.

You'll need a computer connected PIM to fine tune the programming anyway, it would be a wise investment to get one and set up your network in UPStart.

I have it. I just haven't got it all in yet. I've already set switches up offline in upstart. Just gotta setup my links, then program them. Also have to get the OPII install complete.

Working 12hrs a day pretty much everyday, puts a hamper on install time. Kids come first.

Running an old dell D630 with XP and HAI upstart, plus dealer PC access

With respect to basic manual operation.
In UPStart you should be able to check if the rockers are enabled or disabled for local control, if the dimmers are active or inactive, etc.
That might point to why some are not working manually.

They work in manual, then quit. Builder told me the mech room is stuck on today. I'll check when I'm home

Ok. I still have to tie in with PIM. Been a couple long days at work. But this morning pantry wouldn't turn off. Tried up 5 quick. Also up 10 quick. No response at all. Cycling power didn't solve issue. Left the light on and went to work.

I have never had a problem with switches not controlling themselves - this is strictly an internal operation so that would seem to rule out communication problems - but until they are all programmed I'm not sure what they might do.

Please post the UPStart export file.

Thanks.

This is the same switch I had issues with the other day. 2 switches. I'll try and grab my laptop out of truck before I swap with wife.

I tried to connect my PIM to my laptop. Laptop won't find PIM.

- Dell D630 with native serial
- HAI PIM
- Serial adapter (DB9 to RJ11)
- 6 conductor cable (not sure which one, works with OPII for PC access)
- Latest upstart from HAI site.

Tried putting PIM in setup mode. It blinks, but doesn't change connection.

Com port is set to 9600 8 none and 1. Pretty standard.

Double check the serial DB-9 to modular adapter.  One is for the PIM, and another is for Omni programming.

Hmm I only ordered one. Perhaps that's my issue. In looking at directions again it states I need a 36A05-2, I have 21A05-1 and 36A05-3. Gonna try a gender bender with -3
