upgrading Access and firmware

I am trying to figure out if I can upgrade and if so, how to do it. I have PC Access 2.16a, model 1106W. If I select upgrade on the file menu, it searches, finds something and starts to download it. It gets almost to the end and then stops. Is the new Access different from mine? Is there some upgrade for what I have?

Also, I have an OmniLT board with the 2.16a firmware. It is a model 21A00-2. Can I upgrade the firmware? If so, how do I do it? Are there costs involved?

Thanks in advance for your help.

How are you connecting to the board? I know my OIIe has a flash module. If you dont have flash then you will have to replace the firmware chip.

I am connecting through the phone. Will probably have to replace the chip. Just wondering how to get the chip and the cost involved.

Thanks for the response.

Al,

Omni LT controllers use an EPROM chip for firmware upgrades. Any HAI distributor can provide the chip. I'm not sure what they charge for it, but it's probably about $30-$35.

You should be able to upgrade your PC Access 2.16a software to PC Access 3. Select Check for Updates in PC Access 2.16a and it should give you the option to upgrade to PC Access 3. You'll be asked to register, and an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to upgrade. You do not need to upgrade your controller firmware to use the new PC Access 3.

Thank you for the response. I have tried to update through the software update choice. It starts to download the updates, gets to 968296 out of 1280000 and stops. Just sits there. I do not get the choice to register and receive an e-mail. Can it be downloaded from the HAI website?

Hi Al, I just wanted to let you know that I have the same problem with the software upgrade. It stops at the EXACT same spot as yours. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, but it just freezes at the same point every time. Please let me know if you find a fix.

phenix,

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the upgrade.

So far we have had several thousand people who have successfully upgraded, and only a very few have had problems. I am not sure what is causing the specific problem you are reporting. Since the download starts, obviously you are getting to the correct server and the correct file. The file is not that big so I can't imagine that you don't have enough disk space. You didn't mention any security alert, so I am not suspecting a permission problem, or bogus security alert. Without more details about your system and internet connection it is difficult to troubleshoot this sort of problem.

We could try to figure it out, but it might be easier to just call tech support. They should be able to lookup your old registration and send you the upgrade in just a few minutes. It's free and that's what it's there for...

Thanks for the reply

I have called tech support and they said they can't send the file for some reason. so they just took my name and kinda said too bad. Do they now have the capability to sent the file instead of having to download it? Any idea on who to call there to get some answers?

Thanks

Phenix,

Send us a message at [email protected] and quickly explain your issue in the email and if you would include a copy of your serial number for PC Access. It is not standard for us to send out a copy of 3.0 because we would like to have people download it through the update process, however if there is a reason that you are unable to download and you have registered we can get you a copy.

I talked to Tech support today and they said that the problem must be on my end. The tech was able to access the file with no problem. He suggested that I turn off virus software which I did. Still no download. He said that I would have to email tech with the specifics of my problem, which I am in the process of doing.

I just spoke to the head of the Tech support department so let me see if I can clarify.

Tech Support will not send you the file. They will take your information about your current version, and register a new copy of PC Access 3 to you. This process will automatically e-mail you your new serial number and a link to download the software.

They have to do it this way. If they just send you the software you will not be in the update database and not be able to get updates or download new firmware files.

Anyhow like James said the easiest way to do it is probably to just e-mail [email protected] with a brief explanation of the problem and your registration information. If you are registered I think the only info they need is your PC Access 2 serial number, full name, company name, and a valid e-mail address.

If you are not registered you will need one of the following:

1. Photocopy of your "completed" Registration Card, clearly displaying the barcode and serial number.

2. Photocopy of the CD "sleeve", clearly displaying the barcode and serial number, along with name, business name, address, email, and phone number.

3. Photocopy of your purchase invoice, showing the PC Access software as either a line item or qualifying Promo Kit purchase, along with name, business name, address, email, and phone number.

Once your information has been verified you will receive your update info promptly.

To make sure you don't have any problems downloading the software, or downloading updates after the software is installed, you should go into your Internet Options and Under the Security tab add https://www.homeauto.com/ as a trusted site.

Also I don't know who you spoke to, but there are a couple of new employees in tech support. I apologize for any misinformation.
