OP2 network troubleshooting and repair

FWIW, the microrouter solution is working for me. I've had it going that way for a few weeks and so far it's been reliable. I don't like the idea of extra pieces of gear for no "good" reason, but it's better than the cost and effort of replacing the whole system.

Did you have to do anything with the Omni board other than putting it behind the router to isolate it from the rest of the network.

In my case, that setup worked for multiple weeks but the response deteriorated over time. Now I can’t get it to work again.

Can you ping the OP2 Ethernet interface?

No. The ping response also deteriorated over time. Initially there was a small loss of packets and it increased gradually and now it is 100% loss.

Network connection and routing are good. I tested that by putting a different device at the same endpoint.

If you remove power transformer / battery to restart panel can you ping it then?

Over here leaving the Ethernet cable plugged in would cause a gradual loss of ping until I reset (powered it off).

BTW have a read here.

I did power the board down completely and reset the RAM from the interface. It didn’t restore ping.

Ethernet port led is on. Beyond that I have no way to know if the port is actually working.

In the past, changing the hub/switch/router directly connected to the board restored connectivity for a time. But it never lasted more than a few months/weeks.

Now I have run out of the low speed devices to try.

Nope. I just configured the microrouter and inserted it in-line with the existing ethernet connection. It's still working fine now. I haven't tried re-installing the Omnitouch, but I may do that this weekend now that everything has been stable for a few weeks.

This is a total guess, but the behavior you describe sounds like a hardware issue to me. I would double check the physical ethernet port on the board and if you don't find anything, try the Realtek replacement.

At the end of the day, I will probably still replace the whole system but this at least bought me some time.

I don’t see myself doing any soldering even though I have done it in the past in less risky situations. Risk of burning something else is too high here. So, unless it is a plug-in chip, it is out of the equation. I use Ethernet only for mobile app connectivity and programming via the dealer application. Luckily, I don’t use OmniTouch. So, day to day operation is fine.

If you find a workable replacement that doesn’t require “cloud” please let me know.

I am still trying to keep my OmniIIe going. Did anyone try using an Ethernet to serial adapter with this board? They seem to be quite inexpensive and my board has multiple serial ports and only one of them is actively used as of now.

If this is a possibility, I can give it a try. But I am not sure if the board can be setup to accept connections with the adapter - not even sure how an ip address would be assigned to it.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Thinking an Ethernet to serial board will only give you a serial over Ethernet connection. which is totally different than the Ethernet port.

It is a hardware device that has a serial port on one side and an Ethernet port on the other. So, I would expect that it would convert Ethernet protocol to serial protocol. On a Windows or a Linux PC, I would expect there is some kind of driver that make it appear as an Ethernet port and allows an IP address to be assigned either statically or via DHCP.

Very similar to a USB to Ethernet adapter which I use with my iPad to connect to a wired network sometimes.

But I am not sure if OmniIIe board can deal with it.
