Using wireless contact sensor as car sensor

Just curious if anyone has successfully used a wireless alarm sensor, being a door contact or such that has a transmitter, that would talk to a receiver connected to a panel, (elk hai or homeseer).

The trick would be that the sensor would have to send a different code if it was coming in range or out of range,
and the sensor could some how be powered from the car 12 system.

Then you could wire two different zones to determine if the sensor was in or out of range.

Any thoughts?

Yes, that's what I am looking for, but I don't think it's available for the US x10 rf freq.

That's why I was thinking of using some sort of wireless alarm contact, the signal they use is digital so it's very
precise and very secure and they have great range.

What model do you have and how long have you had it?

A took a different approach as shown HERE (used the second schematic listed in that How-To).

It's been working great for about three years in both of my vehicles. I get great range using my homemade antenna for my W800.

I use the Ocelot to keep track of two occupancy variables, which then get passed to HomeSeer, which creates one total occupancy variable (values of 0 for none, 1 for my vehicle, 2 for wife's, 3 for both).

Probably a lot more involved than you wanted though.
