Premise Virtualized Premise

Anyone ever try virtualizing Premise? I've got Premise running on an old server, just heard a drive whining in my computer closet and immediately paniced that it might be my Premise box. It wasn't, but I got to thinking - why not convert this box to a virtual machine? I know I can get the peripherals to work - anyone ever try this?

I actually do module testing using a Hyper-V Premise instance. However, there are limits. Physical access to ports and USB devices doesn't work (although Hyper-V should advertise COM ports to a guest VM).

VMWare does a reasonable job with USB stuff and other hardware, although I have yet to try it with Premise. I have been meaning to give it a go, but haven't had enough time of late to bring it up the priority list.
