Wallplate problem

When I first prewired for my DA system, i thought I was going to use a double gang keypad in the bar area and cut out a appropriately sized hole. Now that I have the Nuvo EG6, which only has single gang keypads, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the second gang. You can see standard decora wallplates do not fit over the Nuvo keypad. The wallplates Nuvo shipped with the unit are great, but they are only single gang. Any ideas that does not involve drywall patching?

See the keypad sticks out the top and bottom of a standard wallplate

I ran into a similar problem while helping a friend build a game room. We ended up using a "oversized" Decora double-gang wall plate with a blank filler panel in one space. Since it was in a game room we later changed out the blank filler panel for a panel with a pair of RCA jacks wired as a source input into the Russound system. That little change was a huge hit with the teenagers as it was a convenient place to jack in an iPod and have it play through the speakers in the game room.

Just something to think about,
Ken

Midway will work.

Put whatever you want on the other side - get creative.

Nightlight, motion sensor switch, fake/nonworking switch (toggle or rocker/Decora), blank plate (Cooper makes mix-n-match plates - 1 side blank, the other Decora, snap together), IR receiver blank - I like the idea of a local source input (iPod dock).

Or patch and paint.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have to look, because my local HD and Lowes do not carry any double-gang decora/blank plates. I'll be pretty lucky if they have an oversized double-gang decora period. Might have to order online.

Royalj7 -- How do you like your Nuvo EG6? You set it up w/ Music Port also correct? I am on track w/ a having mine installed in our remodeled house early next month and would to hear your thoughts on it.

Well, you can see this thread to see my and and a couple others thoughts. So, yea, not to get off topic we can discuss there.

You could buy a few blank double-gang midway plates, and cut them yourself (the extras are for screw-ups). They're less than a buck a piece.

Or, order online, if it's not worth the time. I'm sure you can think of some other things to buy from the same place, to justify shipping.

Smarthome carries the midway Decora + toggle

They quote some dimensions - check first. You may have to switch to a jumbo size wallplate (but I doubt it).

I just used my dremel and cut the top and bottom off of the volume controls so the regular plates would fit. I did not want to have different sized plates beside each other ie light switches and the volume controls.

Ding ding ding! ;)

I got a midway plate to fit over the keypad. It works and I'm ok with the look. Maybe when I get alittle more comfortable with having my DA system I'll feel ok with dremeling it ;)

I used a dremmel to make a plate for my russound double gang keypad and russound compoint, out of a triple gang decora plate. It was pretty easy. If you do try the dremmel, I found that the nylon plates are easier to cut/shape.

There used to be a thread here showing the plates, but I have searched for a few minutes and could not find it.
