Water Level / Detection pcb

Hi Guys

Not sure if anyone is interested but thought i would mention that im
currently designing a pcb for a water level project ....It can also be used
to detect water spillage ......
Heres a link to the info on the chip im using......

Frank, are you having the PCBs made up?
'
I might take you up on a few of these.

Hi Dan

Yes im going to get just a few made up so if your interested let me know for sure how many you would like....I reakon they will cost around $8.00 AUS each(Plus Postage) .....I have a few spare chips which cost $4.00 AUS ....

AUS? Australia?

Hello,

What are you using as the sensing element? I looked at the attachments, but didn't see it. I'm interested in spillage not level.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt

Im not going to use the pcb for spillage (at this stage) ....But if i was i would look at using Hobby Boards leaf wetness sensor probably......

I just finished setting up an alarm on my sump pump. I used a float sensor that a few folks recommended here. I mounted it on the pipe just above the water level that triggers the pump. That way if the pump fails to start for whatever reason or if it is filling faster than the pump can handle I get an alert.

Hi

>I think I'm interested. Any idea how much it would cost to send one of these to the US?

Probably more than what the pcb is worth....at a guess i would say $10 to $15 ....If we could get several people interested it would be cheaper to ship to one person in the states and they forward the pcbs on....I,ll be ordering pretty soon if anyone else is interested....

Hmm...I'm thinking we don't need a PCB House JUST for a few boards...

Damned search engines!

Oh well...people have to try to make a living I guess...

that is not a bad price.... I just bought 1 from spytown.com and plan on buying another... although they tie into my concord 4 which is not setup yet... but will be...

GE 60-744-95R Saw Water Sensor: Detects Water Leaks in Homes and Businesses.

and this was $43!!!!!! but since my basement flooded ... trust me out of the $8000 in damage... that $50 unit will be nice...

Forgive my complete ignorant inquiries...but for water detection, couldn't you just use 2 bare wires? Or is corrosion the concern?

For that matter, couldn't you take a spare magnetic reed switch, stick the magnet into a block of styrofoam and put the whole thing somewhere out of the way, and accomlish the same thing?

Using a float switch near the sump pump, don't you need to be concerned that the suction of the pump might hold onto the float (for cases where the pump is running, but isn't keeping up) and keep it below water? Granted, it's hard to sink a float...
