I've been toying around with different options for my new deck lights, and wanted to get opinions from others on how they would handle the situation. I use zwave with leviton switches and a vera lite.
I have a double gang box with 2 switches (one for kitchen lights and one for outdoor wall lights) next to the door to my deck. The deck lights are hardwired to a zwave switch mounted in the basement. I want to be able to control the deck lights from the double gang switch box next to the door to the deck.
Requirements:
1. Any new zwave switch must support instant status (like my leviton switches)
2. The dimmer for the kitchen lights (one of the switches in the 2 gang box in question) is a companion switch in a 3-way setup.
3. I want to keep a dedicated switch for the kitchen lights, if at all possible.
4. The switch for the outdoor wall lights needs to be a dimmer. The switch for the deck lights is not a dimmer.
5. Due to the location of the studs, it is not possible to replace the box with a triple-gang.
6. There is an elk keypad right above the 2-gang box.
7. I want to have independent control over all three loads: kitchen lights, outdoor wall lights, and deck lights.
Any ideas?
Right now I have an F-key on the elk programmed to toggle the deck lights, but I'd rather have a dedicated switch.
Is there some way to setup a double-tap or hold function with zwave switches?
The only other option i can think of is one of the leviton 4-button scene controllers with a switch for a local load. I could use the local load switching for the outdoor wall lights, but I don't think it supports dimming on the local load, does it?
