Where to find ZigBee firmware release notes

My thermostats came with firmware version 14.23 and the ZIM 14.25. The current firmware is version 14.26. Everything is working so I only want to update if there is a new feature I could use. Where do I find the release notes for what was fixed, changed, etc for the ZigBee firmware. The PC access only has release notes for the controller firmware and the ZigBee Updater has no information.

I often have wondered the same thing, Looked everywhere, it doesn't exist as far as I can tell. Even HAI firmware release notes are hard to find for most versions. Maybe they send them to installers, but it seems HAI cares very ilttle about the rest of us, and if they do exist, they don't make it easy to find.

A word of warning if you ever update the ZIM firmware. When you upgrade it, don't TOUCH it for 30 minutes after you think it has finished updating. It is very easy to brick them if you do not follow this advice.

While not exactly for the firmware, there is a release notes update with every version of PC Access, which indirectly tells you what new firmware features are supported.

In general though, HAI has been pretty bad about documentation. Working with the OmniPro SDK is abysmal.

Of course that assumes you use PC Access to upgrade the panel firmware. I have to purchase the firmware chip, and it never includs any release notes.

I saw the PC Access notes for the controller, but that doesn't cover the ZIM. Luckily the OmniPro SDK C# example program shows how most of it works. I was able to put together a Windows service that emails and sends Prowl alerts when there is an alarm. It also logs to mySQL unit, zone, and thermostat changes. For the thermostat I only log once per minute so it is easier to determine usage. I can group by the day to determine runtime, etc.

Good to know! I was reading the instructions and it is annoying that you can't update the ZIM by sending the update to the HAI controller IP. I have to go to the ZIM, unhook the serial cable, and connect it to a computer with USB. What is interesting is when you connect with USB it shows up as a serial port. You would think they could build into the firmware a way to pass through the data to the serial port.

Oh, another thing. ALWAYS disconnect the ZIM from the Omni BEFORE updating. Don't get fancy and connect both the USB and the Omni at once to the ZIM. I have mine so it can't be pysically cannected to both.

And I should clairify on the ZIM FW updgrade, the radio FW, which you do first is not as fussy and shouldn't brick the ZIM, but for the device firmware, don't touch it for a while after updating the firmware. If its going to fail, its during that upgrade.

Just a quick response...

I will talk to Ryan about including the ZigBee firmware release notes with the updater software similar to PC Access.

As far as the controller firmware, the official location for firmware release notes is in the PC Access release notes. There is always a PC Access release with every firmware release.

As far as people who are not using PC Access, sorry. Since most of the new 3.0+ automation programming features can only be configured using PC Access I would strongly recommend that ANYONE who is setting up a controller have PC Access. Using the console to set up a controller was a great feature in the beginning and is still quite useful for making some quick settings changes, so we have retained this functionality. IMHO, it is much easier to set up a controller using PC Access, also being able to backup your configuration or print it out, something that can only be done with PC Access, is well worth the price.
