Which Keypad for Elk System?

I was thinking I was going to get the elk m1gk system with the big 6 function keypad (more functions and temp sensors right) But smarthome now only carries the system with the flushmount keyboard since they say it looks better.

What do most of you go with. Will I miss any functions of the big keypad, does it look that bad compaired to the flush mount?

I like the bigger one for points of entry/exit, i use the flushmount one in the MBR. The temp sensor, additional buttons, and better readability are my main reasons.

Check out Automated Outlet. they will probably have a better price, better customer support, and more selection.

I have both and IMHO the flushmount KP2 is better looking, but the KP1 has 2 more buttons and a temp sensor like you said, so it's your call. If you mount the KP1 to an outside wall or a wall to an uninsulated room your temperature sensor will be worthless, just fyi.

I too like the looks of the KP2 better but I typically install the KP1 just for the two extra Function buttons. I like like to use F5 and F6 as Garage Door controllers/indicators.

FYI:
If you run the back lights on the KP1 full brightness without dimming, the heat buildup from the backlight LED's can raise the temperature a few degrees on the temperature sensor. It is best to set the backlight LED's on the KP1 keypad to dim down after using the keypad. This will allow the heat to escape from within the keypad housing without affecting the temperature sensor.

I think you should shop somewhere other than Smarthome. Unless you like paying the higher prices. When I am looking for HA items here is the order I shop in...

1.) AutomatedOutlet
2.) Worthington Distribution
3.) Smarthome

As far as keypads, I think you should install a TS07, then you'll have all the buttons you want :-) Seriously though, I prefer the looks of the KP2 also, I can live w/o the extra function keys and temp sensor.

Thanks for the plugs guys.

We will provide you the system with ANY keypad you want including the blue KP1. If the keypad type you want is not listed in a kit, just specify it in the notefield of your order.

thanks,

Martin

I would but I am a Home Automation / Home Theater installer and get a good price through smart home pro and some other distributors. I did how ever order some of the sensors through Automated Outlet that smarthome did not carry. This will be my first elk system though.

I use the KP1 at the door from the garage with the prox sensor installed. Everyone has their keys in their hands anyway so the keyfob is a natural fit in that area. The KP2 had the best customer appeal from my customers.

You know, I am on the fence now. Thanks a LOT Spanky.

The KP1 is too large for my tastes

The KP2 is the nicest keypad when flush mounted, gives a very nice finished look.

The KP3 is what gets me. I hate surface mount "things". "Wall acne" is disgusting. BUT!!! The KP3 is nice enough, and feels good enough that it had to make it into my "recommended for looks" category.

Like i said, "Thanks A LOT Spanky!!"
