It's unfortunate to hear about the limitations/issues with the new touch screens.
Given this information, I honestly think the Elk KP2 keypads are still the "best" option. They look pretty modern (ie they don't have a door that you have to flip open to use) and don't have the issues that the touchscreen options apparently have. The flush mount kit is nice, although it really isn't a true "flush" install. It still sticks out about 3/8", but the regular mount gets installed on top of the wall and it sticks out much further. I would definitely suggest the flush mount.
