Wired Motion Detectors

Well I stopped by AO today and picked up on of the detectors that Steve is using. Will post results after some testing.

Update:

Installed and working pretty good. It appears to only detect movement occasionally when no humans are home. I assume that one of the pets is setting it off. Will experiment with different heights this week.

Also noticed that once it detects motion, the LED light comes on, after about 4-5 seconds the light goes off even if motion is still present. It will the trun right back on. Is this normal? I would think that it would continue to show motion until the motion was actually gone.

The LED is very bright. A couple of times I have had to let our dog out in the middle of the night. When I walk into the Living Room the LED coming on startles me and just about lights up the room enough to walk through it with turning any other lights on. Where the detector is right now, the LED is pointing directly at me when I walk into the room and when it comes on it is like a flash light is being shinned at me. Not a biggie but would be nice if the light was not so bright.

The LED is not that big of a deal, but I did not realize that the detector would react to motion in the manor that I described above. Is this normal behaviour? I have looked at some of the motion detectors here in our office and they seem to indicate motion until there is a couple of seconds of no motion.
