Wired window sensors

I use something very similar. A small 3/8" diameter contact with a small rare earth magnet (I bought my magnets separately). The biggest difference in mine is they do not have any wire leads. The alarm wire is screwed directly into the end of the contact. Just one less connection that could go wrong IMHO. I have old wooden windows however. I'm not sure how the would work with nicer vinyl windows. Worst case, you can get some pretty small surface contacts now like the Tane Pill Contact.

Thanks, Brian. I never thought about that - screw down terminals are probably a lot easier than having to solder the pigtails, or worry about some other kind of splice.

So I found out the builder is using Vinyl Windsor Windows. They slide open, with one side fixed. I haven't seen them in person yet, and he hasn't given me a model #... Is there any precautions I should worry about? I was figuring I can just drill in the channel through the bottom plat and recess my contacts there. Any thoughts?

I suggest you examine the window construction carefully before you drill any holes. I found my vinyl windows have a chamber at the bottom which rain water drains into. There are a couple openings to the outside for the water to exit, but had I drilled down into the chamber, it would have been messy. I contacted the window manufacturer to ask where to drill for contacts, and I was told any holes will void the warranty. I surface mounted Tane micros as in a previous post.

If i had to do it again i would have gottent he sensors with terminals rather than pigtails. As said before..less connections to worry about.
