wireless contact closure

I am working on a couple of projects that are difficult to hardwire in, but that require that a contact be closed, such as by a relay.

Are there any battery powered devices that listen for a wireless signal (IR or RF) and then close a contact in response? Seems like there would be something like that.

I think this thread is right up your alley:

Otherwise there are lots of ways to trigger a relay -The list goes on - take a look at these and see if any suit your needs.

Or try this RF relay http://www.ebay.com/...=item45f2dc1fb3. It's available with one or more channels and a variety or remotes with different ranges.

I bought a couple ot them with matching remotes, and I use them much like you would use a doorbell type push button in the garage but you don't have to be present at the button so you get remote control. I get better range (I bought long distance remotes) than my old Genie clone, and I hacked one of the matching remotes so I can send commands to close the garage door via the Elk M1 (see BraveSirRobbin's tutorial on "How to automate a garage door using its wireless remote").

You could do the same for other applications requiring a relay type contact closure.

I originally bought them to implement Ira's idea of using them to alert you if you drive off with your garage door open:http://cocoontech.co...re/page__st__15
