OK, I have thought about using one wire for my garden BUT I would rather not having to run wires that far. I do have a garage which is right next to the garden. Is there a way to use a wireless protocol to send this data to the house? or even better could I send this data over wifi?

I guess I could always use a linksys router reflashed with lynux and put it out there...

One of the reflashed router solutions would probably be your best bet. I don't know of any other wireless 1-Wire solution at this time.

I am also interested in getting outdoor temperature values via my wireless router. Can you provide a little more info about a "reflashed router" and how it could be used with one-wire?

Linksys was caught using GNU software in their router so they made the source available for hackers. Unix guru's are comfortable with making mods, but the impression is that you need a mentor to get it to work for you. The idea is to compile the 1-wire driver driver library into the router code and make a router than talks 1-wire too. It is a low-cost WiFi interface solution that allows you to run 1-wire without a PC if so desired.

I very much like the idea, but do not want to take the time to learn all that is necessary to make it work. To my knowledge there are no cookbooks written so generally the expertise level needs to be pretty high to be successful.

Thanks, Michael. It sounds pretty complex. Probably not worth the effort considering RFXCOM has an RF temperature sensor. I will probably go with it.
