wow, check out this dvr/camera deal

........ when I'm home and my outside motions alert me to motion, I'd like to be able to just bring it up and see what it is. It's frequently a deer or a coyote, and I've got something for the coyotes.

I have low res cameras... but if at night... and if I am watching TV... it will auto display for me. you can see it on my YouTube Video

Dave - I'm not trying to minimize your work - that is a pretty cool setup. But looking at the video, it looks like the picture is extremely washout out due to the light or IR system. Is it better in real life (not a video of the TV display)? Would you be able to identify a person? Or is it more just to know that someone is out there?

I can really ID people, pets, and wild critters.

I alter camera locations for YouTube Videos. The X10 Nightwatch camera I used in that shot could see a floodlight. But even that shot wasn't bad in real life... compressing for YouTube doesn't help quality.

But the purpose of the setup is to save me from running to the back door to look around. As well as to announce (scare off) any uninvited visitor.

Where did you get the voice message for that?

I use X10 floodlight to trigger the events (including turning on the camera and outside speaker). Then I use a user created BVC software (I am a big Fan) for my voice announcements. To me... the voice announcements are much better than chimes. The voice, is Kate 16 bit voice, I got from homeseer.

if you don't want to purchase voices, you can save tts as wav using the at&t natural voices demo ( http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php ). not as flexible as tts, but if you have canned phrases you want to speak, this will work...

True. Or if your using Vista or 7... Anna (the current standard MS female voice) is very nice. And the nice part about the using MS speech recognition.. is you can just type in what messages and/or warnings you wish. I even use mine for a talking clock. And the nice thing about automation... my clock doesn't talk during sleeping hours.
