Your OS choice is stupid...

I like Windows because it is easy to find just about anything you can imagine for it already made with not too much difficulty, there are lots of really good HA programs
available for windows and I have no trouble building a rock stable Windows machine.

My brother is the opposite of me and designs his own hardware, writes his own software and even built his own house with his own two hands, he likes Linux.

Globalization is what is killing first world jobs. Lots of people in the world with similar skill sets are willing to do the same job for 1/4 of the price. We can't work for that price unless the cost of living drops at the same time. . .

Too bad everyone in the world is greedy and wants everything for themselves.
There is more than a subtle difference between "greed" and "self interest."

You can pretend that the world stands still, and that your world-class skills of 25 years ago are still, today, world-class. In this case you will find that others, who happen to live in a 1/4 cost-of-living area, have over time completely co-opted your knowledge and abilities.

You can ignore your own failure to improve yourself, and blame the pace of change for the fact that you no longer continue to add value in the world. But you can hardly blame greed.

There is more than a subtle difference between "greed" and "self interest."
It really isn't that "subtle"

GREED: An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves.

Not always... but way too often when you hear the word greed thrown around.. it's use is right out of the Marx literature. It's use really means: "your white.. and you haven't suffered enough".

If your wealth is because of your greed... then its OK to take it from you. Its OK to steal music by sharing MP3's (damn greedy music company's and filthy rich greedy musicians). It's OK to steal DVD content and software.. for the very same reason. And spoofing an IP address and hacking a PC for credit card info... well it would serve those greedy on-line shoppers right.... wouldn't it.

There is a revolution going on... the likes of which... hasn't been seen for a hundred years. Watch out for those who use catch phrases to mark (or tag) your (our) forum.

Wow.

Tell me that what happened to the economy, ala Wall Street wasn't because of greed...

I must be a socialist.

I`m Canadian......
As the devil`s advocate, I guess the stock-holders need something to stay interested.

Yeah and it always gets back to... you think (American?) people are making money... and you hate that? I am sorry you find Microsoft difficult to use. I know many do. I would guess that Apple has a more intuitive OS.. but they charge EVEN MORE.

I do not dislike Americans, as long as they are not ignorant, obnoxious and spouting propoganda about freedom, globalization and whatever else Alex Jones has filled their helpless pea-brains that can´t function independently with that week. I wouldn´t like anyone like that, regardless of their nationality.

I do not have any more difficulty using microsoft´s OSes than I would any other broken and incomplete product. In fact, I am, in all probability, more capable than you in a windows environment.

Additionally, I don´t have a problem with people making money, as long as they deserve that money. I´m quite certain that I am not the only one that would be upset if I purchased a car at a dealership only to have it break down on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere. Microsoft was founded on stolen ideas and technology after it was stolen from Xerox by Apple. You might want to look into that before you write another speech about greed and theft.

Your argument about how Linux is only used by 14 year-old boys is way off base and is quite infantile in itself. Irony, anyone? If you actually tried the latest Ubuntu, you would see that it is at least equivalent to windows 7 and with Compiz installed, even better. Do a search in youtube for some vids and you will understand. Here´s a link to start with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w The only reason that I am not using Ubuntu is because most of the programs that I have grown to love can only be installed in winblows. You should try it out before you make yourself look like any more of a moron. You can download it for free. B)

Tell me that what happened to the economy, ala Wall Street wasn't because of greed
For sure. Since this is, after all, a rant thread... The Wall Street Weasels (I do not have polite words of sufficient intensity) are my neighbors, for chrissake, and they are all, to the last of them, useless scum. Aided and abetted by the government, including by my own Senator Dodd, they rigged the system so that they keep the upside and are protected on the downside, all the time playing with other peoples' money. They do not add value in the world, they suck value from it.

I was drawing a distinction, which I believe is critically important, between genuine greed, on the one hand, and self-interest -- such as is reasonably practiced by the developing world when they compete with us -- on the other.

Microsoft was founded on stolen ideas and technology after it was stolen from Xerox by Apple.
A fascinating story here, though it's not clear what was "stolen." Xerox had a stellar research center at Palo Alto (PARC) and invented a good deal of the technology we rely upon every day, including (basically) the "windows" paradigm and the LAN. Xerox consistenly failed to recognize their own R&D achievements and utterly failed to commercialize them. The only business model they really knew was the "click-count" of their copier business.

Steve Jobs was (and remains) a self-absorbed juvenile who recognized the power of the windows paradigm but, in his petulance and arrogance, permitted only closed systems.

I am no supporter of Microsoft, but Bill Gates at least had far better business sense than both Jobs or Xerox.

I don´t have a problem with people making money, as long as they deserve that money.
You must know that the "deserve" idea is dangerous. It is precisely what Dave_X10 was getting at with his reference to Marx. Who exactly has the privilege to determine what is "deserving?" And what exactly are the criteria?

Does the multi-millionaire basketball player or Rugby player "deserve" their wealth? What did they do, exactly, to make the world a better place?

And you must know that neither Xerox nor Apple "deserve" the rights to Windows -- after all, by their business ignorance they denied the world a powerful technology. And Microsoft, on the other hand, does deserve it, for exactly the opposite reason.

Does a mugger deserve his money and goods because he invested in a revolver and was quick enough to evade the police? I think a basketball player is more deserving of his ridiculous salary than a thief. In any case, I did not have the intention of being drawn into that argument. My problem is with companies that sell products or services that are not what they are cracked up to be.

Please spell this out for me... did you mean.. you DON'T like Americans?

I am rarely so highly praised.. as to be proven so right.. by the very person who disagrees with me. Thank you for your kind comments. As a American.. I am not insulted... as we know who is number one and we understand your jealously.

Who is Alex Jones?

.......... In fact, I am, in all probability, more capable than you in a windows environment.
Your arrogance was fun to share with my friends. Maybe in a highly competitive enviroment... I just tested well.

... You should try it out before you make yourself look like any more of a moron. You can download it for free.
My Dad always told me that there wasn't any free lunches. But I do have extra computers (although I probability don't deserve them). But will Ubuntu run my apps... I mean didn't YOU post that.. that is a problem?

And by-the-way... what flavor of Home Automation do you use?

I must be a socialist.
If your not ashamed of associating socialism with your name... I'd say there is a good chance. But it isn't wrong to be a socialist. People should follow their hearts, believes, reason, logic... or whatever they use to make their way in the world.

Tell me that what happened to the economy, ala Wall Street wasn't because of greed...
No wall street wasn't because of greed. Those that would decide what should be disturbed among us would use the word greed. Those same people will also tell you NO ONE deserves Home Automation (a Voice Controlled Computerized Home... what a waste).

Crooks come in all sizes, colors, of both sexes... and some wear ties.

Mom and Dad told me which houses near home were "safe" when I was young. Later.... Dad told me not to count my cash while drinking. But it was my Grandfather that told me not to trust those.... well he used different words.. but he meant brokers. If one was to lay out.. or put up.. any sum of money (or items of value).. crooks will be attracted. The newly created middle class wealth of the 401K mutual fund market... attracted crooks... like flies to sugar.

If you didn't see what was coming (still is coming)... than you might not see how and why forums are being TAGGED with these linux posts.

...My Dad always told me...

...Mom and Dad told me...

...my Grandfather that told me...

Although they may have brought up some valid points, did it ever occur to you that your parents and grandfather were not the be-all end-all of knowledge and correctness? Perhaps they should have taught you not to engage in a battle you can´t possibly win. If your command of English (spelling-wise, anyway) are any indication of your debating skills, then perhaps you should find another hobby. Please explain to me how you managed to perceive my post as stating that I do not like Americans, without quoting me and omitting sentences from my post. I´m a little confused about your accusations of being anti-American. I did use a double negative; "I do not dislike Americans"... but I guess you probably can´t grasp that since your mom and dad never taught you that.
Also, there is no way that I would praise you based on your posts so far. I´m starting to wonder if you are off your meds, and I´m almost positive that these friends you speak of are of the imaginary variety. I´m sorry if I hurt your feelings, but the truth hurts sometimes. The only thing I can imagine this thread would be "TAGGED" for is hilariously delusional idiot.
Peace.

First... WHAT?!? I don't understand at all what you are trying to say. But it sure sounds like you think that Linux is some sort of conspiratorial plot. By some 14 year olds somewhere. The last survey I saw showed that Linux owned some 65% of the webserver market. Amazing how much of the web runs on an OS built for 14 year olds.

My webserver, which I host all of my web customers on is Linux based. When I install servers for my small business customers, they usually get Windows. Desktop for my business customers are almost always Windows. And gee, I'm in my fifties.

I was going to comment on a BUNCH more, but decided that this isn't the place. Besides my veins are about to burst. So I am going to rest now.

I can't believe your in your fifitys... if you still think about conspiracies. I didn't think your original confession about being a socialist had much to do with this thread at all. You had mentioned the "greed on wall street"... which I read as a past tense reference. I don't see that as over yet.

I never said that Linux was built for 14 year olds. I said as an OS it originally was mostly used by 14 year olds in there bedrooms. Linux was built as a replacement to [bring down] the American Corporation Microsoft [according to it's creator]. And it has gone from crapola... to something much improved... I mentioned that. I didn't mean to trash Linux users. My comment is about the TAGGERS that post all the Ani-Microsoft crap on forums. Tagging is a form of marking. A way to deface.

You should get the vein thing looked at.
