Z-Wave Tilt Sensor

I have been looking for a Z-Wave tilt sensor for use on my garage doors.

I know that others are using these and similar sensors, but I am a little lazy and tilt sensors seem to make more sense to me anyway (yes, I have seen the pics of pieces of 2x4's used to mount them). ^_^

I have spent a while trying to find some, but I am having no luck... Does anyone make a wireless z-wave tilt sensor and if so, where can I find it?

Thanks in advance!

Doesn't that door/window sensor you list above accept contact closure inputs?  Why not just use that in conjunction with a true tilt sensor (or did your post infer that you didn't want to go any route that didn't have a sensor 'all in one' and didn't want to use separate components)?

I don't think there is a true Z-Wave tilt sensor.  I did see some results for a TILTZWAVE1 sensor from Schlage, but couldn't find any vendor that actually carried it for ordering.

Interesting, there IS a Zigbee one (but of course that will not work with a Z-Wave system).

I've tried both the HAI wireless door sensor (proprietary) and Aeon Labs door sensor (zwave) on my garage door. Both would give me false positives no matter what I tried. At one point I had the controller/receiver literally a few feet (other side of the wall) but kept having problems. I figured it was due to poor signal propagation from the large steel door it was mounted on. I gave up and went with a wired contact, works like a charm now.

Thanks for your response. The reason I have not responded until now, is because I thought you idea to use the "true tilt sensor" was a great solution.

However, after looking at the user manual it seems like sensor must be tilted on its horiztonal axis (the manual says "towards the wires"). On my garage door setup, that greatly limits the mounting positions. But for $6 it might be worth a try...

I still think that will work and really can't see how that "limits your options" as the sensor is small to begin with.

One problem that might occur though (now that I'm thinking about this some more) is getting multiple notifications while that sensor is transitioning from open to close or back.  Of course you could write rules to set some sort of time out after first notification, but then it gets complicated.

Speaking of complicated, I think you are way over-thinking this problem, though it is interesting...  Is there any reason you really don't want to use magnetic contact sensors?

I know when I mounted my magnetic sensors (two garage doors) it took longer to drag out the drill, tools and ladder than it did to actually mount the sensor. ;)

I think I even have a pic in my security How-To if you wanted to take a look at the mounting.

Also, just for grins, HERE is another tilt sensor that might be easier to mount.

Or, you could just bag the Z-Wave and go with one of THESE units! ;)
Yup, these are the way to go! Just getting around to automating my blinds and I'm strapping one of these to one slat of each blind so I can tell if it's opened or closed. Instant status feedback! Hoping I can tie it into my OPII but haven't gotten that far yet.
