Zwave Switches 50/60hz

Hello,

I am looking for z wave switches that are 50/60hz. So far i have only been able to find the intermatic switches but from all that i read the straight on/off switch makes a "clunk" noise which i cannot have.

Also, whilst i was at CEDIA a few months ago i was asking around the zwave booths and basically everyone told me that all of the new switches were 50/60hz. Im not sure if to believe them because all of the spec sheets for the switches i have checked except for the intermatic ones clearly state 60hz.

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Baje!

I don't think Intermatic is making z-Wave switches anymore.

Historically whatever I have used relating to an on / off type switch versus a dimming switch have always made a "clunk" noise; some louder than others.

(X-10, Insteon, UPB and Z-Wave).

I looked at my "box o Z-wave old and new switches" and all of them are clearly marked at 120VAC and 60Hz.

Maybe the most new ones are now 50/60Hz?

I always assumed that the 220-240VAC switches were 50Hz and the 110-120VAC switches were 60Hz.

Hey and thanks for the welcome.

My predicament is there here in Barbados our line voltage is 110v 50hz. I can get the UPB switches made in 50hz but the problem that I have with UPB is that not alot of companies make them, and they are a bit more expensive than the zwave switches.

As far as i know for the voltage wether it is 110v or 220v is not the real issue (would have to double check that) but the hertz. The problem is that England and Australia have the switches in 220v 50hz but their switches are physically bigger than the american standard which is what is used here in Barbados.

I dont know if anyone on this forum would have such access as to be able to confirm what i was being told at cedia was correct or not.

Are there any decent hardware controllers for UPB that have a nice app?

Thanks for taking the time to respond

Here I have multiple Z-Wave and UPB controllers.

I have one UPB serial controller which connects to the Leviton HAI OPII panel.  I utilize the Omnitouch screens with the controller.

I also utilize another UPB serial controller with the Homeseer software and HSTouch screens which run on Android, Apple, Linux or Wintel.

The third UPB controller is a floater for use with Upstart.

I have done similiarly with multiple Z-Wave controllers.

I've noticed that Leviton UPB and Z-wave switches are typically similiarly priced.  I have though purchased GE Z-Wave here locally at Radio Shack on close out for a very reasonable price.

Ok, looks like im going to go with the UPB switches and a homeseer controller for now.

I was looking at the Hometroller-SE, but i will also need it to be controlled via a iPad or similar tablet. Does this do this out the box? Because i notice there is HS toouch software which is an additonal $199 and then the UPB plugin will be $39. But i also notice that the Hometroller SE-PRO has the hs touch and upb plugin installed already and would make it cheaper to buy.

Just a bit confused.

Thanks for your help

Here I am running HS3 Linux Zee and HS3 Pro on Linux today.  I am also running HS3 Pro on a Wintel box.

(In a recap I am running two boxes with HS2 on them, 3 boxes with HS3 (2 are linux and 1 is wintel).

I am also testing running the HS3 Pro software on Ubuntu 12.X on an Openframe 1.0 capacitance touchscreen tabletop tablet.

Looking now to be able to use my collection of voice fonts or similiar for Linux.  The current TTS that I am using sort of reminds me of playing with TTS in the 1980's; very primitive stuff; but it works.

Its doing just fine.  I am into little computers here.  (still also play with VM).

Thinking HS3 will be released to work with the Hometroller SE-PRO shortly.  I am guessing too that the HS3 UPB drivers will be out shortly.

HS3 also provides (or will shortly) remote running plugins which HS2 doesn't do today.
