ELK-7TS (new Touchscreen) IP address oddities

Elk has replacement POE47TS adapters available now. If you are having the problem I described above, you can contact Elk Support to get a RMA number. You can then send your adapter back to Elk and they will send you a replacement. I sent mine back today, so waiting for the replacement.

ELK-7TS (new Touchscreen) IP address oddities

Elk Support said there is a problem with the POE47TS adapter, and that it is responsible for telling the 7TS to disable the random MAC address generator. They have a fix, but it requires the adapter to be programmed at the factory. They will replace my adapter with a new one that has the fix on...

ELK-7TS (new Touchscreen) IP address oddities

I consider a static IP address as one that is hardcoded on the device and doesn't rely on or use the DHCP server at all. I got the 7TS on my LAN by using its WiFi interface and, on my DHCP server, creating a "reserved IP address" for the WiFi MAC address of the 7TS that doesn't change. So the...

ELK-7TS (new Touchscreen) IP address oddities

In case anyone else hits this problem... Elk Support said there is currently no way to specify a static IP address, gateway, etc. on the 7TS, but they are looking into providing that. I also found that there was a MAC address displayed on one of the "WiFi settings" panels, and it didn't change...

ELK-7TS (new Touchscreen) IP address oddities

I started a new thread on the Elk Support Forum (on the ELK company website) about some issues I'm having when trying to set up a new ELK-7TS touchscreen and ELK-POE47TS PoE/LAN adapter for an M1G. Really odd to me. Just wondering if anyone here might know what's going on. Here's what I...

    Network Cabling my house

The approach I took recently was to run 1" smurf tubes at various locations around the house. That way, I didn't have to decide on the type and number of cables I need to run to each location. Generally speaking, the smurf tube terminates into an ENT box in the wall (usually at the same height...

    HikVision HD-DB1 Video Doorbell

I have a Reolink POE video doorbell but have only bench tested it so far (it's for a new home under construction). Seems to be pretty good. Mine is a V1 so it only supports one chime. The V2 supports five. I will probably put the V1 at a secondary door and get a V2 (and additional chimes) for...

ELK-6051 carbon monoxide (CO) detector question

Thinking about buying a few of these. I read the manual on them, but there was one thing I could not find in it... The detector reacts to four different levels of CO presence, e.g., more "flashes per second" as CO level increases, sounder sounds sooner as level increases, etc.). This is all at...

What are my options for Keypads for an Elk M1?

My original plan was to use the KP2 at that location, but the touch screen seemed to be a better solution. I'm not too concerned about the dropped connections since I will hardwire it the LAN which will hopefully eliminate any drops. I will probably order one. I'm sure I can find some place to...

What are my options for Keypads for an Elk M1?

I agree with the M1 having a hard time keeping up with a lot of the new technologies. My plan is to use the M1 for security and fire (which I think are two areas I think they still excel in) and use the Hubitat Elevation hub(s) for everything else (mostly lighting control and a few other...

What are my options for Keypads for an Elk M1?

Trying to understand how to wall mount a 7TS when using the ELK-POE47TS POE adapter. My plan was to mount the 7TS to a single gang electrical box (which the instruction manual says is possible) that has a conduit going up into the attic so I can pull a cat6 cable from a POE LAN switch to the...

Underground fiber optic cable installation cost

I agree that fiber is the best option if the price is competitive. Shielded cat6 cable may take care of the interference.

Underground fiber optic cable installation cost

Line-of-sight is a problem due to trees. Also, since I have to run power underground out to the gate as part of this project, it makes sense to look at wired solutions that can make use of the same trench. I found out that the directional boring is $15K of the cost, which I can eliminate if I...

Underground fiber optic cable installation cost

I want to have a couple of IP security cameras at my driveway gate, which is about 1500' from my house. I got an estimate for the job that includes... All materials and labor for a 12 strand single mode cable from the house to the gate area. Two intermediate "drops" between the two endpoints...

    Multiple M1DBH terminations

The M1DBH doc shows how to use a cat 5 (or 6) crossover cable to connect multiple M1DBH's to the same bus.
