Adding wireless to M1G

Looking at adding the GE or Honeywell. Primarily the small 0.75 dia. window/door magnetic contacts as well as PIR.

I've read that Honeywell has more product selection. Can someone tell me what other devices are available (other than visible door & window sensors? I won't be using those.

thanks,

Mark

Thanks, that's quite a list! I had no idea as the "regular" vendors I use don't list most of these.

The asset protection module looks like it might make a good mailbox sensor.

Am I correct the range of Honeywell is not quite as good as GE but good enough for most residential applications?

Did you look at 'Elk's' wireless devices?  I did a review on them at an ISC West show a couple of years ago, pretty nice product, true two way feedback, good range...

Does anyone know of a supplier for the Honeywell products? AO only has GE.

I haven't found any "suppliers" or "vendors" that have a robust selection of the various sensors - other than Amazon. I'd certainly be interested to find out if anyone has other recommendations...

Downside is unless you're installing contacts only, you have no selection. Bidirectional is great, but only if your product line has variety. A big hobble on the system compared to other manufacturers. Bidirectional is great on a fob, but for other devices, I'm still not convinced Elk didn't miss the boat compared to their counterparts (IE: Innovonics/DMP, etc.)

Honeywell devices are typically only available through Honeywell's distribution network, so unless you have a 3rd party reseller out there that carries the entire product line (or dropships, like most out there) ,that's the only way you'll find them in the wild.

I am doing Honeywell wireless sensors w/ my ELK. I get the sensors from http://www.aesecurity.com/. So far I have 5818MNLs, 5811s, and 5820Ls.

I have been really happy w/ the range. I wound up putting the receiver in my basement alarm room, and it picks up transmissions from the 2nd floor just fine.

I feel somewhat confident on my current security "posture" but I'm looking to add some [Honeywell wireless sensors] solely for HA purposes... possibly some motions to act as occupancy sensors and trigger various lighting.

I know I could do this via Elk sensors, but I'm also thinking about adding exterior contacts on my privacy fence gates. I don't think any of the Elk ones are rated for outdoor use, and it doesn't make much sense for me to use 2 vendors sensors which would then require 2 different wireless transceivers.

Realize one of the things you can do in lieu of additional wireless sensor types from Elk is use their “Universal 3-Zone” Elk-6022 sensor as it will accept two wired contact closures.  Here is my review at last years ISC West Convention.

As far as weather proofing for external gates, just do what I did for my DS10a sensor monitoring two of my outdoor gates, just use a plastic box and drill a hole in the bottom for the wire (then silicon hole to keep weather out).

Been working like this for over eight years here.
