Adding wireless to OmniPro II

HAI supports 2 wireless solutions.... HAI's own wireless receiver as well as the GE InterLogix receiver. Transmitters for one willl not work with the other so selecting either one will lock you into a specific set of transmitters. I am ready to add one of these approaches to my OmniPro II system but I would like input from the forum to help me choose which one to go with.

- Has anyone had specific good or bad experiences with either system?
- Any notable performance (range) differences? Worst case for my application would be sensors 150 ft from the receiver with normal house structure (brick & wood) to deal with.
- Any really useful sensors that are available with one but not the other?

It's really a matter of preference:
HAI= Price competitive
GE= Well known

I chose the HAI 42A00-1 due to the greater number of wireless zones and use GE sensors, have not had any problems with my OPII. The receiver is in the closet on the 1st floor, the system can be disarmed about 50 ft away. With a zone 150 away 2nd floor or attic placement might be needed.HTH

I vote for GE. They have so many good sensors, and they are pretty much the wireless standard. Range is excellent, but I did have to use a repeater because I had marginal coverage from one end of the house to the receiver, but I have a strange situation you probably won't encounter.

I'd answer honestly (HAI...ahem...worth..less..err....wireless...cough....sucks....uggg....so bad....cough....cost me...ahhh....tons of time....and money...) but I'm afraid the shills at Worthington may find out and cry.

I would simply look at it this way. As good as HAI in general is (whether or not their wireless is as good as their other stuff?) as long as they support GE I think that is the wiser investment since GE is a standard and HAI is proprietary. You know how many people have proprietary wireless like Ademco simple systems then they are bummed to find they can't use them with new stuff like HAI and Elk? So, if you just went with GE and something happened down the road where you didn't have the HAI panel, or the place was sold or whatever, you can put in just about any other system and they will likely support the GE wireless.

I think it depends on what you are doing. The advantages with the HAI is the lower cost and better support. The advantage with the GE is the wide range of devices available. In general, I prefer the HAI unless you need devices that HAI does not currently offer.
