Well, last night, I started to take apart the unit that is in the Kitchen. Wife asked what I was doing.
When I told her I was taking out the hard drive, to put in the other unit, she asked how to get the drive out. After looking at it for a bit, it looked like there was a fair amount of work in it.
I was vetoed. She likes the unit that I have there. So, I put it back together (for now).
I took the second unit downstairs (to keep the kiddies out of it). Hooked it up on my workbench. I started to re-install Win2k. Got to the point where I need to install the drivers. I installed them. This time using ONLY the drivers from the 30Meg file.
Started to reboot, and had to go watch the kids. So, I shut it down. When I get home, if it looks like it worked, then, I'm good to go.
I can't make a DISK image, as the working unit has a 20GB. The other unit has a 10GB...so I can't put the working image directly on the other unit, at least with the drive that's in there.
So, I could put a 250GB drive in there, temporarily, just long enough to try the working software image.
After that, I need to convene a meeting between the user of technology and "implementer / maker" of technology for our house, and see if I can convince her to let me swap the control card.
Her issue is, she doesn't want me to do something that torpedoes both units...as she likes the one in the kitchen very much. It now "clicks" her music for the kitchen zone MUCH MUCH faster and easier. It also, now displays the recipes in a way she can see them...and parses through the .xml database for said food preparedness directions with expediency!
So, I'll let you know more when I know more. Right now, I will see if I got the drivers to install properly.
Thanks again for following up!
