Audio Authority

I need some help from you guys that are using avatrix for your Audio/Video routing. Everything is homerunned into a closet and am in the process of installing the Avatrix for distribution. Are you using IR or RF? What equipment are you using for either IR or RF? And does the IR or RF work reliable for you and are you pleased with it. Also, what remotes are you using? Will eventually tie it in the CQC.Your help is appreciated. Will be making a decision on the IR or RF in the next few days and need your help.
Thanks

Hi,

I have an avatrix setup that has gone through a couple of control setups.

Rev 1) I bought a lot of the 1105 remotes and put one in every zone (18 zones). This works okay although I was finding that the IR was a slight pain. Since a lot of my TVs are LCD and I have CFL bulbs in my lamps, the IR basic xantech IR was not working correctly, so I had to start buying the LCD version ($80+). While this was mostly working, I found that the frequency of my equipment (cable box, escient, roku and avatrix) has slight different carrier frequencies so tuning the receiver was a pain and at least one of the remotes (the escient) had to point slightly off-center to work - not good for the wife or guests. I also use Cinemar so I could control it from there, but that doesn't solve the 'laying in the bed remote problem'. Finally, even with the LCD IR receivers, I still received some interference on the longest runs (basement to third floor, opposite ends of the house) - until the TV was on for a little bit.

Rev 2) I am now using a central crestron controller with ML-500/MX-800 remotes to control stuff - this is using RF instead of IR. In this setup, I am using serial control from the crestron to control the avatrix - this is working very well. I can still control via Cinemar as I am passing through the RS232 from the pc to the crestron to the avatrix. This helpful from the hall touch screens to be able to select sources. I am also controlling my escients and CAV6.6s this way and everyone is happy!

I have a lot of the 1105 remotes that I may sell at some point :-)

How did you program the crestron and the mx remotes? Was it done by a custom installer or was it done by yourself? I didnt think URC provided the programing for the remotes?

I did the crestron programming myself, however, I think you could you use something like the MSC-400 from URC to do the same thing.
