Barometer @ 12Volts?

Hi,

I'm about jump into the 1-Wire Weather solution and
I have question regarding the barometer.

My current simple setup consists of a weather station in remote
location on the property (about 300' from the house).
It is powered by 12V battery charged by a solar panel.

In switching over using 1-wire, can the barometer (B1-R1-A) sold
by Hobby Boards use 12V? I noticed that Tim Bitson's original
design uses 12V, so I am hoping that this may be possible.

If not, is there a 1-wire barometer sensor that uses this voltage?
or any other ideas?

Thanks,

Luis,

The Barometer has a 12v regulator inside so it really needs more like 14v unregulated to operate correctly. If your 12v battery puts out more like 13v then it might work.

Since barometric pressure doesn't vary that much over 300 feet (or inside vs. outside for most structures), you shouldn't need to put the pressure sensor in your remote station. You should be able to put it inside with its own power supply. It shouldn't affect your measurements very much.

Hi Eric,

Would it be possible to simply desolder the regulator and allow straight 12v?
I already have a stable 12v from the solar/battery/output regulator
and it seems that the barometer sensor can handle the different voltages.
(I could be wrong though! i'm not an EE... )

i'll be putting in a order soon!

I was trying to keep all the 1-wire sensors in one place.
I guess i could also get the 1-wire to usb converter for my linux box.....
but then that would make me buy even more 1-wire gear...for the house!
