camera on main door

IVB,

I am also interested in this camera you have. Can you provide a link to where you got it from? I am wondering if a porchlight would be enough to make a person visible at night if they are standing at the front door.
I bought it from toymaster. It was part of a larger order [i got 3 more of the current vitek cameras too], so he created an invoice and sent to me.

ToyMaster: Is this up on your site?

I'm taking Fri->Tue off to do a variety of Elk/CCTV stuff, this particular camera is near the top of the list, so i'll post pics and my impression then.

so guys, what wires should I run? :D If at all possible, buy a not-so expensive reliable camera that integrates well with ELK.

Here is a link to the Color Camera/Motion Sensor the IVB got from me http://www.vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=187

Since there are so many different camera options depending on needs, wants and mounting location I do not list them all on my site.
That's a cool camera. What wire does it need? Where can we use the motion sensor if it's outside the house such as in porch, main door?

EDIT: How wide can it capture?

Is there room inside for a video balun so you can run it off a single Cat-5 wire?
Yep, there is huge space in between 2 studs. If you look back at the front of my house, either behind A1 or G1 is a 16" hollow. Can that balun work though for the camera that toymaster posted?

And will that camera/motion be good for A1 or G1 location in the front of my house?

It needs everything a vidcam & motion do, which is power/video/motion.

In my case, as i've got all this dang cable that I bought before I heard of balun's, I'm going to run a combo RG59/18-2 cable and either 22/4 or CAT5 [after this weekends debachle, i'm not trying 18-4 again :D ]

No idea on the width, i'll post pics once i've got it up.

so upstatemike,

how much do those baluns cost? Or is it going to be cheaper to run wires?

They cost between $12 and $25 apiece (and you need 1 at each end of the cat-5) so running wire will usually be cheaper. I have to do a lot of surface stuff so it is worth it to me to reduce things to one thin cat-5 cable.

Ok, I will lastly install the wire for camera. If I have enough RG6,18/4 and CAT5E, I will use this instead. If I don't have enough of those, I will just run 1 CAT5e towards the headend.

And also, do I need to put a single gang box facing the outside? I mean, facing the aluminum sidings or do I just create a hole in the OSB board and stick out at least 10 inches of those wire?
