Centralite Jetstream

I am looking at installing wireless lighting in our 1100 sqft house and am really leaning towards jetstream. I previously had a 3 switch zwave network setup and after all 3 switches burned out in less than a year they are ruled out. What are peoples thoughts on the system? I would be looking at controlling it with cqc. Some of my switch locations do not have a ground so I would have to go in and retrofit a third wire or run new romex. How difficult is this? I have replaced switches and wired individual outlets before but nothing on this scale. Thanks for any insight and if there are any other suggestions for lighting throw them out there.

There are a few existing threads on JetStream, I would check those out. It looks like the technology is pretty solid, just the switch body itself might need a few adjustments (which they are working on). I guess the question is, how long until they come out with their new switches which support the ZigBee Home Automation profile? That would be my main reason to hold off on investing in ZigBee based switches.

Yeah, I saw those. Everyone seems to be really pleased with them except for the button. I am just wondering whether its worth it to have to run a ground to the switches.

I agree. I'd wait for the Zigbee HA Profile stuff to come out. You'll avoid vendor lock-in, and another company might come out with a compatible device that does something super cool.

Depends on their business model I guess. I've heard that the new devices are suppose to have fewer features but be less expensive than the non-compatible swithes. If they allowed a design that someone could field upgrade the old switches, one might think that the opposite would be true to - you could field upgrade to the non-compatible switch and gain features. I don't think they would allow that in order to protect the existing Jetstream line.

Didn't I read that the jetstream stuff is field upgradeable so in theory they could be upgraded to zigbee HA?

I don't think this is the case. I *might* be wrong, but I believe their existing switches are Zigbee, and the new ones will be Zigbee Pro. I would check with them, I spoke with someone there a couple of months ago about this, but he didn't have a ton of information because they were still in the planning stages.
