Color code for FPL?

I looked at the wiring 101, but may have missed this:

Is there an "accepted" or code wiring color code for 4 cond. FPL? The cable I have has red, black, yellow and green conductors.

Obviously, as long as I'm consistant, it's moot. But if there's a "standard" out there, I'd like to follow it.

Thanks

Normal Fire Wire Color Code is:

Black
Red
Brown
Blue
Orange
Yellow
Purple
Green
Red/Black
Red/White

So if it is 4 conductor cable your colors should be black, red, brown, and blue. I have never seen red, black, yellow, green in fire wire. Are you sure it isn't phone wire?

Well, I'm not sure of much.. :)

However, the cable is marked as Honeywell FPL/CL2 18ga. I believe this is the spec sheet.

So, is the red/black pair usually used for smoke power and the yellow/green for the signal (which pos/neg?) Or?

Thanks

I wonder if it is a different color code because it is shielded wire? I don't know what the convention is for this. It would seem logical to use red and black for power with yellow as zone + and green as zone - but I don't know if that is correct or not.

Thanks. Just spoke to the electrician that did the pre-wire who confirms that this is the commonly accepted color coding.

Lucky Guess!

All of mine is red + black + yellow (or white) + green, I use the black and red for power or for the zone on a 2 wire system and the yellow + green for zone in a 4 wire system. Optionally I will go out on a 2 wire zone with black and red and come back to the panel on yellow and green.
