I'm installing five 4-wire smoke detectors (ASD200) onto an ELK M1G, each as a single unit string. These units have 7 connections: 2 terminals (+, -) for SAUX power, 3 terminals (NO, COM, NC) for zone status, and 2 terminals (+, -) interconnect for common sounding. Reading the ASD200 manual, I think I need two more wires daisy-chaining the five locations together in order to make all the smoke detectors sound when one goes off.
Or do I? I figure NEG might be the same for power, the zone, and the interconnect relay. That saves me two conductors, making 4-wire smokes with common sounding only use 4 wires.
It seems to work on the bench. Do any others use this wiring scheme, or do I need to run yet more wire?

Edited to reflect my better knowledge from bench testing.
