Control4 Zigbe Products Controlled by Other Zigbe Controllers

Does anyone know if Control4 zigbe devices (specifically switches, dimmers and keypads) can be controlled by other non C4 zigbe controllers? I am asking because my house has C4 for almost every light switch/dimmer and I also have numberous C4 keypads throughout.

I am tired of not being able to DIY and would like to switch to an open source or other DIY type of home automation controller. I need to save on my initial investment of $100 per each C4 switch/dimmer. Hoping I can find a way of using these switches/dimmers, as I do not feel like replacing all of them to go to another system - I am talking about 30-50 switches.

Thank you for your help in pointing me in the right direction.

It is my belief that they are not interchangable. Zigbee defines the physical means that data passes through the network, but not the way that data is interpreted. It is the "Home Automation" Zigbee profile that makes Zigbee switches controlled by home automation panels like HAI work. Even the Zigbee Smart Energy profile is different, and Control4 uses their own proprietary protocol.

Maybe you could take a Control4 class and become "certified dealer" then you can get the tools to program it yourself, or find an installer that will sell them to you.
