CQC on sale

I'm thinking about purchasing CQC during the sale and have a quick question. Can CQC be installed on a headless WHS system? Are there any bugs or gotchas I should know about with that setup?

Thanks,
--Jamie

There should not be any problems with that set up. In fact, I'm sure there are a few people that do just that. I personally have it set up on a server in my closet. While there is a screen attached for easy maintenance in the wiring closet, I can also RDP into the system to make changes.

That being said, you really don't even need RDP for 99% of the work you'll do with CQC. That is due to the type of architecture that Dean created with the software. You can install the core parts of CQC on the 24/7 server and then install other parts on computers that are not left on all the time. So you can install the Interface Editor and Administrator Interface (two of the main ways you'll create and modify your CQC system) on a laptop or another computer around the house. That type of work does not need to be done on the CQC server. In fact, those programs can be installed on multiple computers if you like, so you can work from what ever computer is most convenient at the time.

Ya, hopefully Dean will pipe up here, but I'm also pretty sure several of the CQC'ers have installed on a WHS system.

I have my CQC on a headless WHS system. Nothing to really know about. My system also runs SageTV and has a ton of pieces/parts in it.

As someone else said, I don't even bother RDP'ing into it for anything CQC-related. (occasionally for SageTV stuff I have). I do all my CQC setup on a laptop given that CQC is the best example of a "network distributed" architecture out there. I just install the admin interface, interface editor programs on my laptop and CQC handles the rest.

Well now that I have my family calendar online ;), I can see that i'm busy this weekend but am free on 5/2 @8:30am. How about you? If yes, i'll post a thread on the various fora. How about:
8:30-9:30 CQC 101 (abbreviated)
9:30-10:30 CQC User Group Webinar (may be advanced stuff)
I couldn't find the thread with the login info. Thanks.

So I think things are starting to tighten up here. I don't know exactly what the date will be, but I'm guessing we are probably around two weeks out. So it's getting fairly close. Just an early warning...

I'm sure many jumped on board with this recent sale.

I thought we coudl have our own little #CQCnewby IRC channel to give each other some assistance so we don't have to bother the CQC gods too much. Anybody interested?

I've been playing with it for about 1 week now and haven't really built anything too slick, but am spending my time getting to understand how the concepts works and getting communication to all my bits and pieces of equipment established. One i understand how things work and have comm to the equipment i figure making the GUI is the easier part.

I'll be joining the #CQCnewby channel whenever i'm on IRC for the next few days if anybody wants to join me there to discuss. Currently i'm trying to figure out the concept of tokens and how they work in commands and variables.

i'm not allowed to do IRC while @work, happy to jump on after hours though. I can't typically get on until 7:30pm PST, though.

I have access to a Gotomeeting.com account, in the past we've done impromptu webinars as i could show in 5 mins what it would take 25 mins over chat.

:hesaid:

The fewer the better - #cqc is already there and its not too busy so its a perfect place.

I'm up for all the newbie help I can get.

Edit: I'm about to purchase the new Fit-PC2 for CQC use. So I'll need help there too :hesaid:

I've gotten out of the practice of getting on the chat. I'll have to remember to check it out more.

Somewhere along the way I moved from newbee to expert - at least according to other people. That must be based on the length of time using CQC rather than actual knowledge level :hesaid:

I picked up CQC this week too. I have a question though. Is it worth d/l the 2.xx version and doing anything with it, even just trying to learn the parts, if 3.00 is coming out so soon? Or are people using the 3.0 beta?

Us newbies d/l the latest beta. It won't be much different than the 3.0 version and should seamlessly upgrade.
