Crawl space fan

Hi, I am new and have tried to search. I have an M1 at this point only doing security, but I want to add the ability to turn on/off a crawl space fan. What do I need? do I need a relay? and then connect the terminals of the relay to the +/- on the fan? Then write rules? THanks and any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Yup, you basically need a relay that is controlled by the M1 outputs where the relay contacts control the fan. Then you can use rules for automatic timed operation and/or you can link it to a keypad F key. Are you wanting the Elk to have exclusive control of the fan (easier wiring) or do you want/need manual switch control (slightly trickier) also? Is the fan currently hardwired or plugged into an outlet?

Full Elk Control is all I need. I'm not sure if its hardwired or plugged in. I'll check. Will something like the Elk-912 - Elk Relay Module SPDT 12 VDC, do? Or do I need heavier duty? DO I connect the +/- to fan and then N/O, Com to Elk output?

Thanks

What about an ELK temperature sensor and a set of rules to turn the fan on and off?

I don't really care about the temp, its more for getting some airflow under the house to help control moisture. I just want to be able to have it on a schedule like, on for 1 hr a day or something like that. My main question is how to wire the fan to the relay. I think I understand wiring the relay to the output and writing the rule. If its hardwired, do I just connect the relay to the same +/- posts on the fan? And if its a normal plug what do I need to do differently?

That relay should work, assuming your fan isn't too big for the contact rating. The +/- go to the Elk output. The NO & C connections go between the power source and the fan.
