BSR,

Recommend you at least take a generator and fan with you! :)
Yes, good advice John. We have construction power available with looooong extension cords. May just drag a floor fan with me per your advice! ;)

I'm seriously considering looking into renting one of those air conditioners on trailers they use for events like the circus, etc. :)

I was out at Lowes tonight and they had a portable air conditioner (you vent it out a window) for $500 or so. I just may get one of these and use it in the garage / shop after I'm done with the house project.

Man, sometimes you do appreciate the simple advice John! :)

Three days in that heat and I would have died without that fan blowing on me! I actually took it with me when we sat down to lunch (had it brought in so we could remain on task with our time).

Thanks again,

BSR

HeHe,

I keep a couple of 20" box fans in the garage for this. When I'm working outside this time of year with temps in 90's and humidity 60 to 70 %, I hate steping back into the airconditioned house when I set down to rest.

Keeping some air moving does make a difference.

The wires just came through the top of the boxes though and were coiled up inside. We used deep single gang boxes. You know you have the deep ones because they are about the same depth as the two by four studs.

Resurrecting an old one...

How did you wire for the sirens and the motions? You didn't have a single-gang box behind them, did you? If not, how did you keep the wire accessable when the drywall goes up?

Thanks for the info BSR...doing my wiring for my house in a few months, and trying to be as prepared as possible. :(

When we built, we left the home theater speaker & other low-voltage wiring hanging off of the stud, twisted so that it protruded out of the wall. The drywallers were smart enough to cut a hole and pull them through the drywall.

I would have a discussion with them first though. :(

Here is what we did as we were worried about drywallers covering our wiring (and my friend stated he didn't want to have to "fish" around for wire loops hidden behind the drywall).

The speaker (at the bottom) is actually mounted over a single gang box. When we wired we put all the wiring for the siren, motion, and speaker in that single box. Then after drywall was up we just cut the hole needed for the siren and a small hole for the motion detector, then just fished up the wire as the plan was to mount these two devices directly above the speaker location. This way we were assured of finding the ALL the wires as they were secured in the one box.
