Dallas one wire Temp sensors, How are you hiding them from view

Hi All,

I have my CIA Webcontrol board and my Dallas one wire temp sensors all ready to go to my second home. I'm trying to figure out where to locate the sensor on the first floor. Any ideas of how to hide the sensor while maintaining proper tempature readings? Any pics of what you have done would be great.......

Thanks, but there are none in the home(circa 1906) Well there are a couple of surface mounted, i'm removing them as we paint and "fix-up" rooms to restore to original condition. Any other suggestions? I'm thinking behind a piece of trim, but i'm not sure I will get the most accurate temp. reading.

One idea is to put them in a telco jack wall box.

I would go this route, a flush telco plate mounted in the wall with the sensor crimped into a RJ and then installed.

The items worth considering is the fact that they'll sooner or later need to be accessed or serviced, so while hiding them would be ideal, servicing them would be almost impossible without collateral damage.

You could go with a round bushing like those used to adapt magnetic contacts and install them into the open center, but then that would stand out more to me than a phone jack plate flush mounted in the wall by an outlet or such.

I am trying to solve this same problem (although my sensors are still in the mail). If I understand you right the sensors will then be sticking out into the room uncovered?

It seems like that is necessary for them to get a good temperature reading anyway. I would think any type of covering that blocks air flow would keep the temp from being correct.

Here is a flush mount sensor that *may* be compatible with the Webcontol: http://www.datanab.com/sensors/1wire_flushmnt.php. It seems like you could just get a wall anchor and some type of plastic cap from Home Depot and install a DS18S20 inside it.

For my 1-wire setup, I use the EDS OWServer and several "OW-ENV-THPL - Temperature / Humidity / Barometric Pressure & Light Sensors": http://www.embeddeddatasystems.com/OW-ENV-THPL--Temperature-Humidity-Barometric-Pressure-Light-Sensor_p_175.html. They seem to blend in when mounted on a wall.

I was also able to get temperature sensors in all rooms of my home that have a telephone jack. I simply used 2 unused pairs of the telephone cable. See picture.

The above post is what I was thinking of, however using a single jack/plate combo. Then you have to make sure you gasket/seal the box to help prevent air currents from the wall throwing off a reading.
